Partnership to accelerate innovation in the mobile telco market

eRate and Working Group Two, WG2, have signed an agreement where WG2 will be eRate’s partner for a mobile core network delivered as a service. The agreement allows eRate to expand its offer from billing and customer handling systems to include a customizable and programmable mobile core network. This will allow eRate’s customers to develop their own products and services for their end-users. Read more

5G specifications approved

3GPP, The 3rd Generation Partnership Project, announced before Christmas the technical specifications for 5G. Their website says: Several industry companies have been looking forward to the launch of the specification and have made a statement that the “completion of the first 5G NR (New Radio) standard has set the stage for the global mobile industry to start full-scale development of 5G NR for large-scale trials and commercial deployments as early as in 2019.” Read more

eRate and German energy industry

In October eRate was in Stuttgart and Berlin and met with parts of the German energy industry. There is great interest in Norwegian end customer technology and especially in EV-charging and traditional sales of electricity. Norway is considered a highly developed market, and eRate’s experience related to both mobile and energy were appreciated. Read more

Data collection and billing solutions for EV

In May eRate was invited to speak at the German-Norwegian Chamber of Commerce about roaming for EV (Electric Vehicle) charging. eRate have broad experience with data collection and billing for mobile operators, and provide systems for complex data and billing management. This week Vidar Myrer, Commercial Manager Energy in eRate, will speak at the German -Norwegian Electric Vehicle seminar in Stuttgart; “Innovation in the transport sector: Solutions from a leading European e-mobility market”. He will also visit Berlin and speak at the German Norwegian Energy Forum “What is impacting tomorrow’s Energy Sector?”. Read more

Data traffic has increased 67 percent in a year

The mobile data traffic has increased globally with 67 percent from the second quarter of 2016 to the second quarter of 2017. The main reason for this is the free data in India, according to the Ericsson Mobility Report. The increase is also a result of the overall growth of smartphone subscriptions and higher average data volumes per subscription. Read more

Four times more data usage

In November, eRate wrote about constantly increasing mobile data traffic in Norway. It still increases shows data from the Norwegian Communication Authority. The net operators Telenor and Telia in Norway introduced “Roam like home” in 2016. This meant that all data traffic in the EU / EEA area was included in the subscription for their end users. The effect is close to four times more of data usage for Norwegians abroad since 2015. In 2016, Norwegians used 3400 terabytes (3.4 petabytes) abroad and only 800 in 2015. Read more
