Available as early as next year for mobile users
Qualcomm has acquired Wilocity for 1.8 billion dollars, writes SlashGear. In connection with the acquisition, Qualcomm said that they want to integrate WiGig technology in its newly launched Snapdragon 810 This will be the next generation mobile processor with super Wi-Fi.
The engine in mobile phones and tablets
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon system is a supplier of chips for mobile phones and tablets. These pieces act as the engine for mobile devices, and contains the processor and graphics processor.
WiGig speeds Wi-Fi
Wilocity is a small company that makes chips for next-generation wireless network connections. Their wireless technology called WiGig can get Wi-Fi speeds to reach multiple gigabit per second. Frequencies in the 60 GHz band can get speeds up to 7 Gbit / s, but the range is low and the signal does not go through walls.
In the market already in the first half of 2015
Qualcomm says that the first specimens of Snapdragon 810 and 808 are sent out during the second half of 2014, and that the first mobile phones and portable tablets with pieces will be on the market the first half of 2015.
